    Medjool Dates Health Benefits

In our home, dates are often called "Jerusalem toffees" - a little nickname we use because of their rich, caramel-like sweetness. They do more than just naturally sweeten this smoothie bowl; they also add fiber and valuable nutrients.

    • Dates are naturally high in fiber, which supports digestion.
    • They contain potassium, which helps support healthy muscle function.
    • Dates provide natural sugars, offering steady energy without refined sweeteners.
    • They contain antioxidants that may support overall wellness.

For a deeper look at their nutritional profile, you can explore this detailed overview of Medjool dates and their health benefits from Healthline.

    Ingredients You'll Need

This smoothie bowl keeps things simple and wholesome.

    • Almond milk - Creates a smooth base while keeping the recipe dairy-free. But you can use your milk of choice.
    • Fresh dates - Naturally sweeten the bowl without refined sugar. Soaking softens them for easier blending.
    • Banana - Adds creaminess and natural sweetness.
    • Frozen strawberries - The key to that thick, spoonable texture and vibrant color.
    • Ground cinnamon - Adds warmth and depth of flavor.
    • Vanilla bean paste - Enhances the fruity sweetness beautifully.

Seasonality: When Are Strawberries in Season?

Strawberries are typically in season from late spring through early summer, with peak flavor during the warmer months. While available year-round in many areas, they taste sweetest and juiciest during their natural growing season.

They thrive in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres during mild, sunny weather - making them perfect for fresh breakfasts like this smoothie bowl.

How to Make Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowls

Tested in our kitchen and loved by our readers-this recipe is thick, creamy, and perfectly spoonable.

     Soak the Dates

Place the pitted dates in a small bowl with 3 tablespoons of boiling water. Let soak for 10 minutes to soften, then drain.

     Blend the Smoothie

Add the almond milk, soaked dates, banana, frozen strawberries, cinnamon, and vanilla bean paste to a blender. Start blending on low speed, then increase to high until smooth and creamy.

Chef's Tip:If your smoothie is too thick for your blender, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk at a time. For an extra-thick bowl, reduce the milk slightly.

Assemble the Bowls and Add Toppings

Divide the smoothie mixture between two bowls. Arrange sliced strawberries, banana, and a handful of homemade granola (or toasted nuts and seeds) on top.

    Flavor Variations, Substitutions and Add-Ins

    • Chia seeds or hemp seeds - Add extra texture and plant-based protein.
    • Nut butter - Swirl in almond or peanut butter for richness.
    • Protein powder - Turn it into a post-workout breakfast.
    • Coconut flakes - Add tropical flavor and crunch.
    • Swap the fruit - Try mixed berries or add mango for variation.

This recipe is a flexible base you can build on with your favorite flavors and textures.

What to Serve with Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl

This smoothie bowl works beautifully on its own or as part of a relaxed brunch spread. It pairs especially well with wholesome baked goods and simple savory dishes.

    • Blueberry Banana Muffins or Banana Bread - A lightly sweet baked pairing that complements the fresh strawberry flavor. Serve warm, with a spoonful of blueberry chia jam if you like.
    • Smoked Salmon Brunch Board - A savory contrast that balances the natural sweetness of the bowl for weekend gatherings.
    • No Knead Bread - Toasted and served simply with butter, nut butter, or fruit preserves for a comforting addition.
    • Soft Boiled Eggs on Sourdough - Adds protein and a satisfying savory element alongside the fruit-forward bowl.
    • Homemade Granola - Sprinkle over yogurt or serve on the side for extra crunch and texture.
