    Ingredients You’ll Need

This creamy tahini yogurt dressing comes together with just a few pantry staples and fresh ingredients:

Overhead shot of all dressing ingredients: Greek yogurt, tahini, olive oil, lemon, garlic, sumac, salt, and pepper — labeled on a blue backdrop.
    • Tahini – Made from ground sesame seeds, it brings richness and a subtle nuttiness.
    • Olive oil – Adds a silky mouthfeel and heart-healthy fats.
    • Fresh lemon juice – Brightens the flavor and balances the richness.
    • Greek yogurt – Adds creaminess, protein, and probiotics. Full-fat or low-fat both work well.
    • Garlic – Adds savory depth. One small clove is enough to punch up the flavor without overpowering.
    • Sumac – A citrusy Middle Eastern spice that adds tang and color.
    • Salt & pepper – Essential for seasoning. Adjust to taste.

How to Choose the Best Quality Tahini

Good tahini should be smooth, pourable, and mild—not bitter or gritty. Look for trusted brands like Soom, or Seed + Mill. For a taste-tested guide, check out this best tahini brands article from Minimalist Baker.

How to Make Tahini Yogurt Dressing

Made and Tested in our kitchen and loved by our readers—this recipe is as simple as it is satisfying.

    • Mix the ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, Greek yogurt, minced garlic, and sumac. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Chef Tip: Whisk the tahini, olive oil and lemon juice together first before adding the yogurt and seasoning for a smoother, silkier consistency.

    • Adjust consistency: Add 1–2 tablespoons of water if you prefer a thinner dressing.
    • Serve: Use immediately or refrigerate in an airtight jar for up to 4 days.

    Flavor Variations

Take this base recipe and make it your own with these add-ins

    • Fresh herbs: Add 3 - 4 tablespoon of chopped parsley, cilantro, dill, or mint for a burst of freshness.
    • Spices: Try ¼ - ½ teaspoon of cumin, smoked paprika, or za’atar for warmth and depth.
    • Sweet note: A drizzle of honey or maple syrup can mellow the tang for a sweeter finish.
    • Heat: Add a pinch of cayenne, chili flakes, a dash of hot sauce or ½ tablespoon harissa paste for a spicy kick.

    Substitutions

    • Don’t have tahini? Try almond butter, peanut butter or sunflower seed butter for a similar creamy texture, though flavor will vary.
    • Make it dairy-free or vegan: Use a thick, unsweetened plant-based yogurt (like cashew or coconut-based).
    • No sumac? A splash of extra lemon juice can mimic its citrusy brightness.
