Description

This olive oil bread dip is made with extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, Italian herbs, and red pepper flakes for an easy restaurant-style appetizer at home. Ready in just 5 minutes, it’s perfect for serving with warm crusty bread, focaccia, or sourdough.

Ingredients

1-2 garlic cloves, finely minced

1/4 tsp Italian seasoning

1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

1-2 tbsp (15-30 ml) balsamic vinegar

1/4 cup (60 ml) extra virgin olive oil

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Optional add-ins:

1-2 tbsp (10-20 g) Parmesan cheese, finely grated

1-2 tbsp fresh herbs (basil or parsley), finely chopped

Fresh chili, finely chopped (instead of red pepper flakes)

Instructions

1. Add the flavor base
In a small bowl or shallow serving plate, add the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Drizzle in the balsamic vinegar and give it a quick mix.

Chef’s Tip: Let this sit for 1–2 minutes to slightly soften the garlic and mellow its sharpness.

2. Add the olive oil
Pour in the extra virgin olive oil and gently mix to combine. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

3. Serve and enjoy
Add any optional extras like Parmesan or fresh herbs if using. Serve immediately with crusty bread or breadsticks.

Chef’s Tip: Use high-quality extra virgin olive oil here — it’s the star of the dish and makes a big difference in flavor.
