Description

Baked Camembert is the easiest, coziest appetizer you can make — a warm, melty wheel of cheese baked until irresistibly soft and gooey. This simple recipe uses garlic, honey, and thyme for a beautiful balance of sweet, savory, and creamy flavors. Perfect for holidays, gatherings, or any night when you want something delicious with very little effort.

Ingredients

250 g (9 oz) whole Camembert round

2 garlic cloves, minced

2-3 tbsp (30-45 ml) honey

1/4 tsp chili flakes

1/4 tsp sea salt

Fresh thyme

Instructions

Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Prepare the Camembert

  • Score the top rind of the Camembert in a criss-cross pattern with a sharp knife.

  • Cut two sheets of parchment paper, each about 40 cm (16 inches) long. Arrange the first sheet inside a small baking dish. Lay the second sheet diagonally across the first to form a cross. Place the Camembert wheel in the center.

Make the topping
In a small bowl, stir together the honey, minced garlic, chili flakes, and sea salt until well combined.

Chef’s Tip: Slightly warm the honey in the microwave for 5–10 seconds before mixing—it will loosen up and blend more easily with the other ingredients.

Assemble and wrap

  • Drizzle the honey mixture over the scored Camembert. Scatter fresh thyme leaves on top.

  • Gather the parchment paper edges up around the cheese to form a loose pouch and tie securely with kitchen string.

Bake
Transfer the dish to the oven and bake for 10 - 15 minutes, or until the cheese is golden on top and meltingly soft inside.

Serve and Enjoy!

  • Let the baked Camembert rest for 1 - 2 minutes before serving so it settles slightly.

  • Serve hot with toasted baguette slices, crusty bread, crostini, or seeded crackers. It’s also a perfect addition to a festive charcuterie board.
