Oven Baked Pork Steaks with Apple, Red Onion, and Sage

Description

Learn how to bake pork steaks at 400°F (200°C) for juicy, tender results. This easy recipe combines boneless pork steaks with apples, red onions, and sage for a deliciously savory and sweet meal. Perfect for weeknight dinners or a special occasion, this dish uses simple ingredients and guarantees the best results with minimal effort.


Ingredients

4 x 150g (4 x 5 1/2 ounces) Boneless Pork Steaks (We prefer to use ribeye pork steaks)

45 ml (3 tbsp) Olive Oil

2 Red Onions, peeled, quartered, broken into petals

2 Eating Apples, washed, cored, and sliced

4 Garlic Cloves, minced

15 ml (1 tbsp) Dijon Mustard

45 ml (3 tbsp) Apple Cider Vinegar

4 Carrots, peeled and cut into long strips using a speed peeler

30 ml (2 tbsp) Runny Honey

10 - 12 Fresh Sage leaves, chopped

Salt and Black Pepper, to taste

Garnish

A small handful of Fresh Italian Parsley, chopped


Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat the oven to 200ºC (400ºF).

Prepare the Pork Steaks and Vegetables

  • Pat the pork steaks dry with a paper towel. Season with salt and black pepper.

  • Wash the apples, carrots sage. Prep the onions, apples, garlic, carrots and sage.

Sear the Pork Steaks

  • Heat 30 ml (2 tbsp) olive oil in a large ovenproof frying pan on medium-high heat. Cook the pork steaks for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. 

  • Transfer to a clean baking sheet or large plate. Work in batches if needed.

Sauté the Vegetables

  • Add onion petals to the pan, stirring regularly for 3-4 minutes. Add a pinch of salt and black pepper. 

  • Add the sliced apples and stir occasionally until they are light golden brown and start to soften. 

  • Stir in the minced garlic and sage, sauté for another minute.

  •  Mix the Dijon mustard and apple cider vinegar together and add to the pan. 

  • Pile the carrot strips on top of the onions and apples.

Bake the Pork Steaks

  • Place the pork steaks on top of the vegetables and drizzle with 15 ml (1 tbsp) olive oil and the meat juice from the pork steaks in the baking sheet.

  • Bake for 15 - 20 minutes in the preheated oven. 

  • Drizzle over the honey and return to the oven for another 5 minutes or until the internal temperature of the steaks measures 60ºC (140ºF). 

Rest the Pork Steaks

  • Rest the pork steaks for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Serve and Enjoy!

Garnish with chopped parsley and serve with your favorite sides.

 

Notes

Storage Instructions

Fridge: Store in an airtight container for a maximum of 2-3 days.

Freezer: Freeze leftover pork steaks in a freezer-safe airtight container for up to 3–4 months.

Reheat: To prevent pork steaks from drying out, place them in a baking pan or oven-safe container with raised sides. Add ¼ cup (125 ml) chicken broth to the bottom for added moisture. Cover with aluminum foil and reheat at 160°C (320°F) until warmed through, approximately 10-12 minutes.
